Hey, new here.
Im new in terms of fish, and looking at getting a tank to go in my room, the one i have my eyes set on is the Juwel Rekord 800 as it fits perfectly into the space allocated. The issue i have with it is this - how much space in the tank does the filter take up? I havent been able to find one locally so would have to have one delivered but would be most annoyed if the filter took up half the tank, also are Juwel filters able to be removed from the tank and replaced with a different brand?

Thanks.

Juwel filters are approximately 4" x 3" and the height of the tank. They occupy the rear R/H corner of the aquarium.

You can remove these easily as they are only held in by small blobs of silicone. The silicone can be sliced off the glass with a knife blade.

If you do wish to change the filter, I can recommend a Fluval 3+ for that size tank.

Thanks :) was thinking fluval myself, my old tank had one, but we'll see. Thanks again

The filter is around 3-4" (75-100mm) square and sits in the corner it doesnt displace much water tbh over time i have removed all my in internals in my rio 125, 180, another 180 and my new 300 i have gone over to ehiem externals due to what i keep

nothing wrong with the juwel internals for standard stocking but if you go for more messy fish ie. plec's and cichlids you need really an external

What would you advise then?

I've got a 110L Juwel Rekord 800 and I've been thinking about going for a second filter or biting the bullet and going for one larger filter, possibly external...

Cheers,

Ryan

EDIT: I'll be stocking the following fish if it helps:

6 Black Neon Tetras
6 Panda Cories
2 Apistogramma Cacatuoides (m+f)
2 Bolivian Rams (m+f)
1 Angel Fish (maybe)
1 L260 Queen Arabesque Pleco

Thanks.

I have a Rekord 800 and whilst the internals can be removed, mine was far from easy. It hard more silicone than Pamela Anderson and took ages to remove. It still has marks on the glass that I attempt to srub off each water change but Im planning on using the Juwel background pieces to stick over them. I also use to find tiny bits of black silicone floating around for weeks after removing it.

I replaced the Juwel filter wuth a Fluval U4 as I plan on keeping a coulple of Blackmoors in the tank and they are messy beggers. The Fluval kicks out quite a hefty flow rate though and so I've positioned it near the back (similar to the oem) with the top jet just level with the surface so that it creates surface distruption but not too much deep water agitation.

If you dont have messy fish I'd say the U3 would be more than sufficient. Id like to go external but dont have the room at the minute.

I'd rather resurrect and old thread than start a new one.

That's why we have a search function, is it not?....
