i cant get myy water to stay heated at 27 or under, i have turned it right down but it goes up to about 28 or 30. anyone else have any problems with these heaters?

not sure where you are, but my rekord 70 is struggling to stay below 28 at the moment mainly due to ambient temperature, with the heater unplugged.

I've just fitted fans into a DIY hood which help a fair bit.

ill buy another temp guage just to check. whats the rough temperature that guppys etc can live in ?

I've not had very good experiences with Jewel thermostats.

I would go out and get an internal (glass type) thermometer (stick on ones aren't very good).

Also, check the room temperature. If it's hot in the house (or even just outside) then that can have a real effect on your tank temp. Some people (not usually in UK) turn their thermostat off in summer months as the outside temperature is enough to keep the tank at a stable level.

I've come to the conclusion that juwel heaters are crap. Both of mine are turned down as low as they will go and the tanks are still at 27. I'm going to take the heater out of the 180 and put my old tronic heater in there as i want the temp to be 24 when i bring the hillstream loaches back in.

Another thing i hate about them is you have to turn them off half an hour before doing a water change or they crack. When i had the tronic heaters a couple of inch from the bottom of the tank i just turned them off when i want to put my hands in the tank.

It's not the lights affecting the temp as the tank is this warm first thing on a morning when the lights have been off since the night before.

Is your heater actually on though - is the red light on? The tank is probably that temperature because of warm weather, the heater is probably not even on?

Hi daza,

The heaters aren't on all the time but i know it's partly down to the weather. The thing is though the fry tanks which are smaller and have tronic heaters are in the same room and they stay at 25.

I think it's also due to the juwel tanks being deeper as they seem to hold the heat more. I only just plugged the heaters back in this week as the tanks were getting 30 plus so the heaters have been unplugged for about a month.(on the juwels)
