Hi all,

I have a Rio180 tank and I am finding the plants are susceptible to brown hair algea. After some research here on the forums I think I need to increase the lighting of the tank - it is currently using just the default lights.

My question is, are the reflectors and effective way of increasing the light output. According to the sales blurb they can inrease the output by 50% (the ones for the Rio anyway).

Appreciate any thoughts before I but them.

Many thanks
Steve

it's rubbish mate. yes they will redirect the lost light back in to the tank but 50% - no way. the cure for your algae lies elsewhere i'm afraid.

in short of time today so cant get into the rest of it but if you put a thread over in the planted section someone will help you out.

we'll need to know the water stats, plants you keep and fish load. get that lot on there and take it from there.

have a read of my rio180 journal in my sig if you want to know what i've done.

sorry i would help more but i'm at work and really busy.
good luck

Hey Jimbooo, thanks for the reply. I rather suspected 50% was a bit of a lie! :)

I'll get the info across to the plants forum asap - I just need to get a new test kit.

Thanks.

Hi we recently bought a jewel vision 180 and we got the reflectors new of ebay with free post and about a £1 cheaper each they seemed to make a difference to the lighting but not drastically.

We are still using our default lighting as well and are wondering what else to change them to.

Just getting into the swing of aquariums LOL, so much to learn and all that
