nice tanks and they are well laid out. but its not uncommon for them to split a seal every now and then! and they come with $hit filters, least Hydor make their heaters now.

I wouldnt have another juwel tank if it was given to me for free.

i have a few and like them, ive had no problems and like the filter and heater contained in one corner.plus they all come with every thing, heater, filter and light and are a great beginner set-up.

Like the way the filter houses the heater, good range of sizes and build quality seems good! But im put off with the colors, they look very tacky esspecially the beech effect! I was looking at th Trigon 350 for my upgrade but it was the color that put me off. Now gone for a Rena Aqualife corner unit.

The tanks themselves seem well made, but the equipment is cheap and nasty.

They are not bad, but the cheaper Rekord models are just ugly monstrosities. The vast expanses of cheap plastic, the poor filters and the "I will get in your way just so you cant gravel clean the tank properly" bracing bars are really irritating.
Having said that, having one in my room where I dont care what it looks like as long as it holds fish with an upgraded filter works well and for the price they arnt that bad.
Just try and get a bigger one second hand......

I looked at Juwel tanks, when I was going to by my current tank, and quite like the wood effect on the bottom plastic rim, was put off by the bulky filter heater part and the crap stands.

I now have a Fluval Duo Deep 800, even cheaper, but without the rubbish filter and heater) and have bought a 2 door real pine cupboard (which was brand new off ebay and cheaper than any chipboard stand) which I sured up with some wood I already had, and am in the process of upgrading the lighting in the hood (although the hood isn't the best design.)

I guess it depends what you are after.

I just wanted the basic tank in a decent size and got it. The rest is a work in progress thing, but for me the Juwel didn't have what I wanted so I would have to upgrade everything anyway, and therefore it wasn't worth the extortionate price.

I was originally going to buy a Juwel tank but I've heard so many bad reviews and to be honest I didn't really like the set up.
I ended up buying a Fluval 1000 Duo and was very impressed.

Yeah I think for the price and what you get with them the Fluvals are awesome Value, as long as youre not going heavily plated and need light etc. For the basic community tank I don't think they can be beaten (on price anyway)

I bought mine off ebay for about half what they cost in the stores, with some fidh in it, already had gravel in it and a few decos.

I bought it cheap cos my wife wanted a tank, and since explaining the weekly maintenance issues she has left it to me, and I've gawn down the planted route hence the upgrades. lol

Too many people thin fish+water Jobs a good un. (I wasn't really interested in fish or Aquaria until I tried to shut her moaning up) and now she complains about the amount of time I spend doing something or other with the tank.

I wasn't searching for Fluval, just a tank decent starter size and with a reasonably full setup, and am well pleased.

You're right SC, they are a cheap little tank. We were so impressed with our first on we brought a Fluval 800 Uno, which is equally a good tank.
I know the lighting isn't that good, I have had quite a bit of success with plants thriving well. It does make a great community tank, just a shame they didn't make really big tanks!

They're a tank, they hold water, and you can put fish in them. So for that part they're good.

But their design (what's with the hoods - Blue Peter could do better with a couple of cereal boxes!) and filters (really really naff) let them down. And for what you pay for them, you could get a seriously nice one made for you with a proper cabinet. Eg. my 6ft cost me £330 (tank/hood/cabinet) from Mer Aquatica. The same wouldn't buy me a Rio 300. A similarly sized Juwel tank would set me back nearly double that:

And with their naff filtration, I'd have to buy a new filter anyway, so it's not even as if the filter would make up for the difference in price lol.

Extremely nice to look at. Nothing special to actually use.
