Hi everybody,

I am currently re setting up my tank (Record 70), after emporarily re-homing my fish to another Juwel record 70 during some decoration. During cleaning the internal Filter case has come loose. I suppose I can re-fit this with silicon, but I was wondering if I would be able to rehouse it to the other corner of the tank?? There seems to be a hole for outlet. Is this possible and if so how can I do it??
Thanks for any help

I have juwels and removed the boxes and bought internal filters instead.
Alot of members are ripping there boxes out as the powerheads are no good.
Yes you can move the box to the other side of the tank.

I have took mine off the glas, it was attached with loads of black sticky things (not suckers)..

I placed mine at other side and you just turn the powerhead around and have it coming out of the other outlet..

I agree the powerheads on them are crap but lucky for me cos mine is still pretty strong :)

When i first took mine out and put it at the other side, becasue the grills aint near the botom of them, i took all the gravel from the corner, and put the filter so it was right on bottom, then just packed the gravel up against it so it could not move, then at the top i got a clip and place it over the filter and the glass, its well secure and where i want it now :)

Hi,
You can total remove/resite you juwel filter box. With a long warm knife you can cut through the black silicone which holds the box to the tank. Clean this and you can also buy black silicone (juwel) to re apply the box.

BigC

Thanks for all you help,

I have removed the filter. the problem seems to be that because of the design of the 400 powerhead, I cant spin it through 180 degrees to point at the other hole?? There is small groove there which interferes and could cause loss of flow if I forced it. Reading some of the other threads, maybe now is a good time to consider replacing with an external filter?? Could I put the filter media (currently in the spare Record 70 with my fish) into one of these?? I suppose I could not attach the filter and give an external time to mature then remove the Juwel internal??

Eheim externals seems to get good reviews as do fluvals. Perhaps time to break open the pigggy bank!!

Again, all your comments are gratefully recieved.

Paul  :)

yep, i reccomend an external!! the tetratec range are very good. i also use fluval and have never had a problem although some people curse them!! Just put the media in the external and you will be ok!

You wont regret upgrading to an external filter (i'd personally advise Eheim over fluval), with Juwel equipment its not a matter of IF it fails its a matter of WHEN it fails because it nearly always does.

very true, my juwel heter and powerhead became fault in less than a week of installation. I have now removed the filter box and heater and installed a Fluval tronic heater and externals. Water seems clearer and the heater is much better

its a bum to clean too, well properly anyway. lol i have one here with a 600 head, its never actually let me down, but i would not even consider selling it or giving it away even. i could not be that cruel to anyone!

at the mo irun a juwel lido120 and hav no probs with power head and i also have a record 60 (not running but will be soon shrinps or pos bristlenose again)
i did have a record 120 running for 8yrs with no probs so i think they ok :good:

this is one of the problem we face when these sort of things come up. it is the experience of many that the Juwel equipment is perfectly good. though my Rio split, something else that my be considered a common problem with Juwel tanks, i had no problems with the power head, its just the filter itself is not that much good. when stuck to the tank it is almost impossible to clean, properly. and looking at it a fair amount of the water can get passed the sponges without being filtered. it is only when you start to canvas a large number of people, that the "odd" problem, turns into a "common Fault". Even so it is always worth being warned of the possibility that these problems may occur.

Whilst i agree the internal Jewuls looks awful it saved my ass the other day.

I broke the ceramic impeller pole inside my 305 at 6pm so my LFS was closed.

I was truly thankful that i had left the internal filter in then.

Not the end of the world, i might buy a second external, but until then it stays.
