Hi my name is Michael and I am new to the forum.,
I have a 2ft. Juwel tank. It became infested with a weed, a bit like the blanket weed that you get in a pond.
I have got rid of it but I think some may be obstructing the pump. The output is very much less than it was.
I have cleaned or replaced the filters to no avail. How do I Dismantle the filter/pump assembly for cleaning?
I would be most grateful for any help.

Hi Michael and welcome to the forum.

I have a bit of experience with Juwel tanks so I'm hoping I might be able to help you.

Okay so when you take the lid off the filter you'll see (hopefully if they've not changed the design) a grey housing with the black pump set inside. If you pull off the outlet nozzle (it should just pull forward) then you'll be able to get hold of the grey housing (on my Juwel it has finger holes) you can then just pull the head up and out. From there you should be able to pull the head out of the grey housing. Inside will be access to the impeller. It's mostly likely this that needs cleaning... you might even find the blanket weed has got in to it. Pull the impeller out and wipe it on some kitchen paper, at this point you can check to see if there is any damage to it - there may be some marks on it, if these marks are deep then it might need replacing. Then you'll need to find something to clean inside the impeller housing - some cotton buds or similar will do it. Once it's all cleaned you can pop the impeller back in and put the head back into the grey housing and then slot it back.

Someone once asked me about the size of a juwel filter box on my Rekord 800 so I still have a photo stored from that query. I'm sharing it here so you can see hopefully what I'm meaning. You can see the grey housing with the pump head inside it

I found it was fiddily to get the pump out of that grey plastic housing and I had to carefully wiggle it about a bit to get it out without breaking the plastic. You don't say which Juwel you have but from past experience I found the Rekord and the Rio 180 had a very similar filter.

I can also tell you that Juwel have fantastic customer service and so don't be scared to ask them for their help  :)

Hi  Akasha,
Many thanks for your reply. My filter looks exactly like your photo. When I took the pump and housing out I could see that the intake was blocked by weed. I did not manage to remove the pump from the housing but clearing the intake has cured the problem.
Many thanks for your help.
Michael.

not a problem. When you get time I would still remove the pump from the grey plastic housing and check the impeller. Impeller's arn't cheap and if the weed has got in there it could be gradually damaging it. It's worth the check for the extra few minutes that it will take you. It's always a good idea to check the impeller anyway on a regular basis ... I check mine every couple of months :)
