Hi all,

I have a 180 litre comunity tank which is going really well.

I'm thinking of getting another tank i've seen a lovely looking 72 x 24 x 24 and am thinking of a housing a nice size group of the above fish it.

I was wondering what else were compatibale with it i've been told that even though they are from Africa they are more compatible and are listed often stock wise amounst the new world ones.

Thanks in advance

I rescued one from a friend when it was less than an inch in length and stuck it in my New World Tank (see sig for full stocking). It is currently around 3" long and is very well behaved. When it was smaller it used to shoal with my Barbs and now it often swims around very closely with my JD. If I did not think that they were both females then I would say that they may try and mate!!

Yeah like Kribs they fit in well with New Worlds, however if they breed they will decimate there tank mates.

My mate has a red Lifalli Jewel in his 5ft with Breeding Severums, adult female JD, HRP, Birchir, Firemouth and Blood Parrots, he fits in well.

That size tank i would look at other cichlids

I know that is a large tank for a group of juwels. lol.

Was going to start there as I really like the look of them and then see what would fit in with them.

Like the look of the Ellioti and the JD to. They should mix ok shouldn't they?

Jewels don't work in a group anyway, they are a solo or pair fish.

Oh yeh you could do that if you had enough space, but you would get bored pretty quickly because you couldnt have any other tank mates.

Why go with Jewels anyway? why not get a solo then some other tough big cichlids like Texas, JD etc

I keep a Jewel with a JD, a Severum, an Ellioti, Black Ruby Barbs, Pictus cats and a couple of Plecos. The Jewel is very easy going. My Ellioti is the trouble maker...

Haha same with my Aureus, must be the Firemouth family in general.

Don't know why but I really like the look of them. Could get a pair and then research some big tough ones to go in with them. Any suggestions I love bright colour?

I reckon so, he is the biggest fish in the tank though so dont know how things will change when my JD grows

Jewels are vicious if you get more than one and very vicious if a pair forms. My LFS had five adults in a tank and they literally beat the c**p out of each other. Each time I went in, they had new holes in their fins.
