Hi all I have been reading these forums for a while now and have taken some great advice so thanks all. I have been keeping fish for about a year now and have really come addicted to it! So I took the plunge and upgraded to a Juwel 180ltr tank and have some questions regarding stocking. I know the question has been asked a million times but here goes!
I currently have:
8 Neon Tetra's
6 Red & Blue Tetras
6 Zebra Danios
5 Male Guppies
7 platies (1 Adult 6 babies )
2 Bristlenose Catfish

Any opinions would be very welcome thanks in advance.

What are red & blue tetra's? lol. Any pics?

What temperature is the tank at?

Welcome to the forum btw. :)

Red & blue or Colombian Tetras as they are more commonly known. The tempeture is 26 degrees.

26 is a little high for the Danio's, Guppies and Platies mate. Never heard of CRF Tetra's being called Red and Blue before.

None of your fish need 26C, so all this is doing is speeding up the metabolism of your fish and will ultimately shorten their lifespan.

My only concern with your stocking, being a fan of temperate fish getting temperate conditions, is that Zebra Danios on average need cooler conditions than your other fish. The Zebras would do better at 18-20C for most of the year (usually attainable in a heaterless tank in most homes), whereas everything else needs at least 22C to prevent the risk of their immune system shutting down because of too cold a temperature.

If you could rehome the Danio's or atleast move them to another tank then 23-24 would be a better temperature. Alot of people keep Danio's at tropical temperatures and they do live... but for a less amount of time which isn't exactly ideal.

Thanks for the advice I will lower my tempeture then. As far as quantity is this Ok?

Ok so I have lowered my temp to 23-24 and have spoken to my Lfs about talking my Danios has anyone got any opinions on the quantity of my fish am I over-stocked?

With the danios going back by the sounds of things, your stocking looks fine for now, just keep an eye on the livebearers as a mixed sex group of Guppies or Platties could quickly cause issues through fry. Speaking of which, try and sex those Platy babies ASAP, looking for the notched anal fin of males.

Thanks guy's yes they are going to take the Danios back and give me a store credit. Will check the sex of the Platies I don't want to be overrun with fry!
