Just Wondering?

Unfortunately, even if I wanted to, you can't do work experience at Big Al's unless you're 25+. :( And they are SO good with some stuffs; they always ask you if it's a new tank, and they even advised me not to put any other fish with my male Betta!! But my Mom and I told him that it's okay, we know what we're doing, and besides, we can always separate the fish. :)

Maybe PetSmart.... DDX They suck sometimes, though. DOWN WITH PETSMART I'M GOING IN FOR THE KILL....!!!! *swoops down from the sky with pitchfork*

Umm.... o_O; Yup. I'm officially loopy. XD
You hav'nt seen me hyped up! Or Just plain normal! :good:

Will have to ask the smaller shops tomorrow! ( I Wonder if they'll actully take me on if i pay for the insurance?? ( Hell knows how much it is? but it should'nt cost too much? )
If not... A&D i'll have to go!

*creeps over to the Bettas section*

( Ok my failing atetmpt to do that in a jamaican accent  )

Be aware that legaly you cant do it unless your 16+, and even then most small places wont because of insurance issues because your a minor.

To answer your other question; my employer has under 18 insurance and its around £5000 per year, and can only be bought in blocks of 6 months.

work experience is done in year 10 normally wich the majority of are 15 year olds and school sort the insurance out

You should also be able to get a letter from the school/careers teacher asking too, least my kids school does that.

what's the point with insurance. are they scared that you will fall in a fish tank and drown lol? the vet said that i can do work experience at his practise, so i'm sorted! :good:

Dont know it hon, I only know Oldbury because of A&D.
Lmao. you proberly have drove past it but not noticed :p :good:

i love A&D's Koi pond

there are A LOT of hazards that you wouldnt think of in a fish shop that would need to be covered by insurance, becase if you get injured your parents would blame who ever the company was and perhaps sue, not many employers would take this risk just for a few hours free labour.

I did my work experience in my LFS and the owner told me that they hadn't planned to take anyone the year I did it as the previous couple of years they got people who didn't turn up or were unwilling to do the jobs asked of them (cleaning the glass on however many tanks every morning isn't the most fun). She said they only took me on as I went in and asked by myself and hadn't gotten a parent to do it or just given them a letter, apparently my lack of forward planning demonstrated maturity. Just make sure you're presentable when you go in to ask and remember the worse that can happen is they say no.

I think the only insurance required when I did it was employee liability insurance, which if the company employs less than a certain number isn't a requirement, I think it's 5 it's not very high.

The 2 weeks I worked there were really good, I got to go the tropical wholesaler which was incredible although most people here would probably have a heart attack if they saw it.
