Well I have a 55 gal, and some bags of sand.

I was initially going to go with the Africans, but a friend convinced me to atleast take a look at the americans.

So, I was just wondering what kind of fish setups would I be able to successfully keep in the 55gal tank?

You can keep medium sized cichlids in that aquarium such as Fire mouths,blue acaras,kribensis,Angels,dither fish.Whatever floats your boat!
