Hello, I recently aquired a used freshwater setup. It was going to be thrown away so I brought it home. It includes a 37 gallon hexagon tank Proquatics 1600 external filter, Rena 200watt heater oak stand and hood light, plus all the decor.
I got it all cleaned and setup. It's been running for a few days now. Thanks to this forum I have started a fishless cycle. My question is on the filter media. The model I have is discontinued and I can't find media for it. I washed the course sponge that came with it, then adde a layer of cut to fit medium bonded pad, then a layer of fine pad on top of that, then I put a bag of ceramic tubes on top of that. Will that be O.K.?

Thanks for any advice you can give.

That sounds absolutely fine. So long as the pads you cut down to size are big enough then it really isn't going to be a problem. On the rare occassion when I replace pads I don't tend to bother buying the 'correct' ones. I just buy a couple of large foam pads from ebay and cut them to size :good:

Thanks, I wanted to make sure there wasn't a problem with my filter media before I got
to far in to my fishless cycle.
