Just Starting Out!

Hi there. I have been searching these forums for a few days and just thought it best for me to introduce myself as I will be spending quite a bit of time on here and probably asking loads of newb questions.

Anyway. I hav just bought a 2' x 1' second hand tank and currently have it running without any fish. I want to start adding a couple of fish on saturay (7th day) Should this be ok? and when can i start adding some live plants? Should this be done before or after adding fish?

After christmas I am hoping (if all goes well with this tank) To start quite a big project and make my own cabinet and either buy or make my own tank quite a bit bigger (about 5' or 6') so will probably have loads of questions then.

You'll need to cycle the tank before you can add fish, so it's going to be a few weeks before you can start to add fish. See the fishless cycling sticky here: http/www.fishforums.net/content/New-to-t...shless-Cycling/ You can add plants while you are waiting for your tank to cycle.

Firstly, your best option is to carry out a Fishless Cycle, whilst waiting for the filter to fully mature you can be adding plants, do plenty of aqua-scaping and research your desired fish in greater detail .
