any comments or suggestions are welcomed
also a sexing on the jd and rotkeil would be nice as well LOL

and i know that i am overstocked for now, i have an empty 55 gallon tank that i am waiting to see what fish i should move

Hey Jeff. How big are all these guys? I would say female on the JD sex as the fins are more rounded and it looks like there is coloration along the jawline, but it may still be a little immature to tell just looking at the body shape (has it's juve shape still).

With sevs, it is usually the facial coloration that is the give away to the sex of the fish. It's kind of hard to tell from the pic as the color dots are quite small (I can't get a unblurred pic of this coloration either). Look at both of them and if you see alomst a monotone color in the face, then it's prob a female. If you see bright color spots then its most likely a male. But again, these may be still too immature to sex as the JD.

Anyways, if you can state the rough size of each fish and how long you had them, it would help in the sexing :good:

Like the Pics, Severums are great (I've just got two Goldens last week and they are only 2inches!)

Approx how big are your Sevs, and how long does it take for them to grow to medium, then full size??

i agree with ox. jd probably female but can't be sure yet and look at the facial markings for the sevs. females generally don't have facial markings or very little. males generally have darker worm-like squiggles on their faces. again, as ox said, you may have to wait a little longer to be sure

in my experience, sevs grow kinda slow. especially females. mine is 8-10 months old and it's only about 5 inches.

my goldies were about 3 1/2" when i got them 2 months ago, now they are 4". god full size i wouldnt know, a year or more probably

my jd is about 4 1/2". very cool fish...i like the way she stalks her food when i put it in there. well at least when its not a frozen cube she does.

my rotkeils range from 3 1/2" to 5", the one in the photo is about 4 1/2". i will see if i can get a better photo.

Well at the size your fish are at, then you should be able to sex them all. The JD is most def a female. I would say that your golds you posted are males from the red colorations. Still can't tell on the rotkeils or green sev from the pics.

It usually will take around 1 to 1.5 years for most cichlids to reach close to full size (prob about 85 to 90% grown). They will continue to grow for their rest of their lives but as it's so small after this first year, its almost unnoticable.

and jb12288...... I don't like McCain. Im pulling for Obama. I like making fun of the government in general... hence why I had Bush before and now I will have McCain. Once Obama is elected into office, I'll put something funny about him too.... just got to do it for McCain while he is still considered in it.... anyways.... back to the fish

I wasn't entirely happy with anyone running  I just know that I'm not going to vote for socialism. If people want to make more $ or have more stuff, they should go to college and get a better job. Oh yea...for the people that say the poor don't have $, they can get free govt grants to go to school on full ride. If they have kids they can even get daycare assistance. I don't believe we should punish the successful for their hard work.

LOL OK rant over :)

To continue the obviously political banter.... I think the problem is not the candidates... its the system. Its a system of patty-caking and paying off favors and this is why most legislation that many politicians "promise"... never get through. With so many favors to be repayed to the party bosses and large donators, it is a only a patsy that can ascend to the highest office on the planet... because if you don't play ball, then they don't endorse you and you turn into an estranged "Third Party Candidate"

If we get rid of the two party system, we would have to actually look at each individual candidate and vote based on what they are saying, not whether they are carrying the banner of the donkey or the elephant..... as so many people do. The two party system is an artifact of a time when the majority of the country was uneducated and transfer of information took time (instead of going to a candidates website and clicking on his/her blog). So the politicians set-up two parties with general ideals that could be put on a poster or told to people that would not confuse them. So, when it came to the election, it was just up to the people to vote for the party they liked, not the person. There were obv exceptions such as George Washington, Andrew Jackson (both war heros and recognized as the figureheads of victory in two seperate wars), and of course Abraham Lincoln who was known by many people, much as Obama is now... as someone with new ideas that will never work because they don't have enough experience.

As soon as government gets rid of the party system, then the American people must become educated again and begin to take an interest in their ruling body of government again, instead of not voting and then sitting at home saying that the president is an idiot....

Ok, any mod who sees this... I'm done, just had to add my feelings on the whole situation... no more... back to fish

haha wow...your absolutely right about all of that...but back to fish

i just picked up 3 german rams here are some photos
ram1.jpg

ram2.jpg

they are in the bag still for obvious acclimation purposes. Their colors are a bit faded due to stress as well but everything should get better in a few days.

yes they do look nice, thank you...i made sure to get 2 females and 1 male since i wasnt getting 4, did i do the right thing? They are settling in well. I keep hearing people say that their rams stay at the bottom and hide, but these just seem to swim all over never staying on the bottom or in a corner. very lovely specimens.
