Looks very nice! I've also switched to sand, I do love how it brightens the tank up with good lighting, not to mention that bottom feeders seem to like it more.

Shame it takes some extra effort to clean though.

after a while you will think its easier than gravel, certainly less stressfull for the fish as the waste just gets sucked up instead of having to rumage through the gravel etc.
it does look dirtier quicker though as everything sits on top.....!

it the same method as cleaning the gravel?

Chris, cleaning sand differs a bit but you will soon get the hang of it.... instead of digging into the sand like you would gravel just swirl the syphon pipe above the sand to pick up any waste etc as it will sit on top of the substrate instead of going beneath the gravel. its best to stir the sand every now and then to dislodge any trappped gas under the sand as in large amounts it can be harmfull to the fish, but mts will help with this

I spent all day yesterday removing the sand from my discus tanks. It looks pretty but its a pain to maintain and it was frequently getting into my filters which was not good. Your discus look great, I want to start over with some new little ones just need to find a home for some of the ones I have now.
