in just got a 100w heater for my 8 gallon tank, and im getting some guppies soon.

what temperature should i set it at?

at the moment i've set it to about 76F - is this ok?

yep, guppies will have no problem with that temp.

its a visitherm heater- and says something in the booklet that says i may need to buy some extra part to stop fish getting electrocuted!!

is this true? cos i dont know where i would get that from or how much it would cost and dont want to really!

Is it a heater guard? This exra part? Personaly I think you need not bother. If it IS a heater guard it's supposed to keep fish from getting burnt but they are absolutely useless unless you only have large fish - I had a zebra danio get stuck in one and die because of the stress.
