I'm a total newb when it comes to bettas. I bought a yellow and purple one and he currently lives in my 29 gallon. Is there anything I should know about him? Does he like regular fish food? Is it normal for him not to be very active? He likes to swim in place. He looks pretty healthy.

Edit: I've had him for 24 hours now and he's doing great! :D He's such a nice, peaceful betta. No one is pestering him and he is nice to my guppies. Here are some pictures. He is actually purpleish, but these pics make him look sort of blue. He still needs a name... any suggestions?

pics! pics! pics!

Give him a cloth plant that has leaves/petals that reach the surface. He will make a hamock. And give him a cave to hide in--or behind--whatever his pleasure. lol

Betta food is a good daily staple. I like Atison's Pro and Hikari. Then some kind of blood worms or brine shrimp--something--for his treat. Also some blanched pea or at the very least a fast day once a week.

A little salt in his water seems to be a plus.

Is he checking you out? fluttering his little fins and in your face straight on? Good Boy!

Chibi...congrats on your fish he sounds realy handsome!

Sue...calm down it is not your fish dont get so excited! :p

How do I make him flare up? Do I put a mirror infront of him? It's so hard since he's in a big tank :X !

Very pretty boy! Nice Pics too

Just keep an eye on the tank. Bettas can change as they get older, let alone if they get bored. They are a little unpredictable.
