Just Got 5 Yoyo Loaches

Well today I finally got my 5 yoyo loaches,

they seem happy enough, i was just wondering what i should be feeding them? i have algae wafers and flake but the LFS guy told me they should be having food with a higher protein content, but i thought he was trying to sell it to me haha

also one of my zebra danios died, but she had been looking sick for along time ( i cycled with her and had 5 males 1 females)

any advice would be appreciated

Hi,

I have 4 chain loaches which are similar to your yo-yo's. Mine seem to be quite happy eating catfish pellets and any remnants of flake which drops to the bottom of the tank

If they are as active as my chains you will love them.

I also lost a Danio a couple of weeks ago. Strange thing was there were no visible signs of illness and the water stats were all good too.

thats good then its exactly what I have, i know how you feel i new something was wrong with mine, but it almost feels insulting to have a zebra (hardiest fish going around lol) die on you.

still im so excited for my loaches

Hi there

I have 3 Polka Dot loaches which I bought a couple of months ago.
They are v active, always looking for food along the bottom of the tank.
However, they don't come out to feed at feeding time like all my other fish -
they seem to do entirely their own thing and presumably are getting enough as
they appear to be thriving.
I feed algae wafers and another type of sinking pellets especially for them -
both from Tetra - but never see them actually eating anything.
My other fish also get flake and frozen bloodworm etc -
You'll really enjoy having them - very beautifully marked and real characters.

Most Loaches enjoy the same sort of food and because the river fish that are constantly bumping into diffrent foods on there journeys in the wild. Variety is the key

I have 8 Clown Loach, 6 Zebra Loach and 8 Kuhli Loach. They get the following and not all at the same time

Hikhari food they love it. Algae wafers, Sinking wafers, food sticks, crab cuisine, tropical micro pellets, chilid mini food. They do like the tetra fish flake and vedge flakes I put in for the other fish I have in my tank.

I also feed them shelled peas, cucumber, chicken, ham, muscles, prawns, lettuce leaves and ocasionally they will take a bite out of an apple (pealed of course).

Blood worms, Daphnia, Krill I think I got everything

Heck I think they would eat anything maybe drawring the line at the kitchen sink

I had Zebra Danio's for quite a while but be honest I would not give them the title of hardiest fish going

Glo light tetra's I have 5 still going strong from nearly day 1

Personally I get the opinion that they are like Keith richards (the rolling stones) They cannot be killed by conventional weapons hard as nails

hahaha keith richards that is a great analogy, well its good to know i can feed them a wide range of food, they are still hiding alot at them moment but i guess that would be expected. Well i like the zebra danio but probably wont buy them again, there perfectly fine but i reckon i might get something more colourful like cardinals. But this will be once my tank is very stable
