another single fry in my tank. so i have 3 fry now the first two are about 2 weeks old now. and i keep missing them dropping. i need to get better at judging when they are about to drop. the one i found today was out of my dalmation mollie which was very squared off last nite. but when i found the first 2 fry i thought she was there mother but i guess not since they are only 2 weeks apart. i have 5 female mollies and one male. i havnt moved them to give birth so just lettin nature take over. survival of the fittest and all that. any way to tell who the mother of the first two are?

I have no idea how to tell from here Jen. You should have noticed one of the females become much thinner after giving birth. The 2 fry are not the only ones that were in that drop, there were probably more like 30 or 40 so the size change can be quite dramatic.

The girl in this picture looks quite large but it is a picture of a normal shaped molly a few hours after she gave birth.

She had given birth to about 35 fry that day.

Here she is just yesterday on day 38 after giving birth. To me she is obviously much bigger although I'm not sure I would notice it if I didn't have the pictures to compare.

my dalmation was bout the size of your top picture last nite and is still the same size today. she is a bit smaller than my other mollies so i guess she is a bit younger

The girl in that picture had given birth just a few hours before I took the picture. Several of her fry can be seen swimming around the tank with her. The point is that they will be that big even right after the fry have dropped.
