Hello all.

I have fitted an additional x2 T8 30W 900mm strip lights to my 300 litre tank totaling it up to 4. I have been struggling with plant growth and i am fed up of them falling appart. Will this be enough now to have nice plants in my tank. I dont have many plants in there at the moment but i am using a liquid fertiliser every time i do a water change which is weekly. I dont intend on having a heavily planted tank, just enough that i can make it look nice and to have some nice hiding places now my tank is so bright.

Any advise or comments?

Regards

You've got around 1.5w/gal, but as they are only T8 bulbs, they might struggle to provide enough light through 60cm of water.

Swords, vallis and crypts are your best bet, but I'd invest in some decent T5 lighting.

Ouch, I have just moded my tank with these tubes it cost me quite a bit. I am gutted. There is definatley one thing i will do with one of my lights. I still have one of the origional strip lamps in from when i baught the tank. I will replace it with an arcadia lamp like the others i have fitted. I really hope this is enough.

I didnt realise that the T5's where that much better than the T8's. Does this mean that the mod i have done is a total waste of money then?

Not a total waste of money, it just means you wont be able to grow (or not very well) some carpeting plants as the light wont penetrate deep enough however the taller plants will benefit from it.
