Just siphoned the gravel and changed 20% of the water. Most of my fish are hiding now is that normal?

When's the best time to test the water again today or tomorrow?

yes its fine, imagine a big siphon coming into your house and sucking up all the dirt LOL

You can test straight away, what are you testing for?

It's quite normal in new tanks; they're just not used to the routine yet.

Test after an hour or so.

Well done :good:

Thanks, just using the API master test kit. I'll test later. I've left the light off now so they can settle again. I don't think it needed it like that but wanted to get my first change over with. Was very easy.

I didn't touch my filter, I'm not sure how to clean that. It's an internal one. It's still going fine not slow or anything so didn't want to mess with it yet.

I would love that!!!! :hyper:

your filter only needs maintenance once or twice a month, unless you notice it getting weaker. if its getting weaker its usually because its getting clogged. when you 'clean it' just rinse the sponges/media in old tank water. dont be too vigorous, just enough to get the loose dirt off, then put it back together.

How much water conditioner should I have used. I used 4 drops in the 20% water I put back in. Is that right or am I suppossed to add for the whole tank?

Thanks didn't think I should clean it too thoroughly

I add conditioner for water that is being added only, the amount will depend on your conditioner, with the one i use, king british, i add 1mm per 10l

I always delay feeding my fish until right after a waterchange, they'll begin to realise something good comes after the disturbance and won't be so afraid ;)
