hi, ive just bought some new plants and they have got some sort of metal weight around the bottom not sure what, do i keep the weight on or take it of, thanks  :*)

If its a big bunch of stem plants I would deffinatly take it off and spread the plants out - not in 1 big clump. Other than that, it's really up to you. Most of the time they are aquarium safe, but you can't always tell. I always take it off, but that is because I spread the plants around.

Takes it off. If you need to weight them down just tie them to a rock or something.

I agree with taking the weights off and spreading the plants around a bit, as your plants grow their roots will expand and if they have a weight tied around them they will die off and rot- also if the plants are in a clump together they have to compete more with each other for nutrients and don't grow so well.

okay so someone please tell me for sure if its okay to leave the lead weight on my plants...i just replanted my tank and while i took them off almost all plants i did leave them on some of the bunches and i have no idea which ones. of course i can disturb all the wonderful substrate i just got settled..i put some laterite under the sand in quite a few areas and i dont want to move the sand to check the stems. thanks :dunno:
