I just bought a used CF fixture (2 x 55w). I was thinking of putting it over a standard 10g that currently has 2 x 11w (6700k) mini CF, Hagen CO2 system, Seachem root tabs and liquid ferts.

The tank is moderately planted, but I plan to add more before putting the CF over it.

Should I buy 2 x 6700k bulbs, or another combination?

Thanks.

2 x 55w + 10gal = algae like no man has ever known

Also, thing about what that's going to do to your water temp! I have 1 56w over my 20 gal long, and I still regularly see it go up to 80-82!

Maybe I should buy only 1 x 55w (6700k) bulb to use over the ten?

The fixture itself is only 24" long. I think the guy I bought it from used it for a 20g (US) high reef tank.

Here's a list of my tanks:

1 x 55g (US) - it has standard lights (2 x 20w). I have no plans to plant this tank, unless I were to run into another fixture like this one.

1 x 29g - 2 x 65w (2 x 1/2 10,000k and 1/2 6700k), 1 x Hagen CO2 system (I plan to add another), Seachem root tabs and liquid ferts. This was my first tank with CO2 and high(?) lighting. I plan on re-doing the whole tank. It has a cool piece of wood in the middle, but it's taking up too much floor space because of the piece of slate it's attached to.

1 x 20g long - has single 20w tube. unplanted, will be used for a growout tank or for a coloney of shell-swellers, in which case I don't want to be messing with CO2 because the shellies require harder water. I'm not too keen on planting it because it's underneath my 55g, and would be a difficult to prune.

4 x 10g = 1 is the above mentioned tank, the other 3 have shell dwellers and/or their fry.

My options are limited because my little apartment is already filled with tanks.

Here's a pic of the 29g I plan on re-doing:

Thanks. :)

I think I'm going try to remove the slate from the wood, and weigh it down some other way. The wood is about 6 years old, but I like the shape of it. I want move the big Red Rubin towards the center.
