I doubt i wil get him to fill it before hand, I will probably do as Danno said, get some sealant and just put a layer arround the edges.
As for the stocking..........
I doubt the pleco is a problem, it's only a BN
I knew the balas might be a problem, but they were the first fish I bought & i didn't really reasearch them before i got them (newb mistake), my lfs don't take them back, and if they did they would probably just put them down. They should be OK in there for a while untill I can re house them.
The silver dollar is doing quite well on his own, he's been alone since my other one died about 6 months ago, I bought another one but it died after a few days.
The clowns are still pretty small about 1.5 ins but i don't see it being a problem being in a tank that size.
As for the surface area, I use internal fluvals, right at the top of the tank, so the water aggitation is always pretty high, in addition It will be a planted tank which should help with the oxigen levels right?
