Today I sorted out about a half a dozen 3/4" fry from my fry tank and moved them over to my 55 gallon. These guys are from my red lyretail female Lucy and my deceased marigold wag hi fin male Donovan. Most of them are an orangy red, most have wag markings, a couple are solid colored and one of them has twin bar markings. All of them are either going to be lyretails or hi fins. I was really excited to see the twin bar markings, this is the first batch of fry I've had where that has shown up! There's 2 more with the twin bars back in the fry tank I'm keeping an eye on as potential keepers as well. I'd be really happy if one of the twinbars turns out to be a hi fin male.
It's so cute watching them check out the big tank, they definately have their mother's fearless additude. They've been zipping all over the place introducing themselve's to the adult fish. For some reason they seem quite fascinated with Reuben my black male swordie. They pop up nose to nose with him looking all perky like they are saying hi to him. Then they zip off to play in the filter current or to check out the cory cats. Then they zip back over to Reuben. Big Red, my male lyretail has checked out each one of them as well (I think he's scouting out new girls) but they don't seem to really care about him. It's so much fun to watch them.
