I don't really know how to do this as along with tropical fish, computers are very new to me as well. I have sucessfully had a cold water aquarium for six years now and have decided to upgrade to a tropical instead. My mother has very kindly agreed to adopt my two gold fish.

At the moment my tank is heating up and should be ready some time next week.

The tank size is 30cm wide by 76cm long. I have about 30cm of water depth correct me if wrong:- approx 70 litres of water

first question is at the moment i have 10cm of gravel above the undergravel filter is this too much???

While I decide upon what fish to stock the aquarium with, any suggestions would be greatly recieved.

Thank you for any help given.

Duane.

10 cm is too thick for substrate if you're using a UGF. I would reduce it to less than 5 cm.

Are you using a powerhead connected to the uplift tubes of the UGF or just an airline hose connected to an airpump?

Do you have any other filter?

I would suggest that your first port of call should be here:

These are all the faqs and articles at the top of the beginners questions forum.

It's also worth reading all these:

Same sort of stuff, just more specific and at the top of the tropical chit chat forum.

If your tanks been empty for a week or more after you got rid of your goldfish Im afraid that most of the good bacteria in your filter and gravel will now be dead so you may well have to "fishless cycle" click on the link at the bottom of my post before you can add your tropicals.

All the Best and

At the moment I have an two uplift tubes of which both have a tube going down them with an air stone on one end and an air pump on the other. If that makes sence!!

Thank you for the advice. Although I should of said that I have kept my algee eaters which there are two of them, because I have been told that they are cold or tropical tollerent. They look like catfish with out the long whiskers?? Does this still count as a fish less tank or not ???
