is it a gud thing when the male flares at the female or not, don't really know much about splendens :S just a quick question because i am gaining knowledge so i can breed them! :hyper:

i also got a new tank 2day just for the splenden breeding process :D

thanks

male bettas will display to other males and also females. When they display to another male is it a threatening gesture to drive the intruder away. The same display is sometimes used for females but more often it is to show off to the female in an attempt to get her to breed with him.

Yeah, if you're considering breeding it's not an easy process as it is fairly long and involves a lot of work and space. I don't want to sound rude but, I don't think you should be breeding if your asking a question like this, as it would be really obvious if you've done any kind of research at all. There's a ton of threads on here about breeding if you want to know more and we'll answer any questions you have if you can't find the answer, but whatever you do don't just jump into this, please.

Ditto ditto ditto....

Breeding bettas isn't like breeding other fish. You can't just plop them in with eachother.
Learn more about bettas first.... IE you shouldn't be keeping them in the same tank together (unless they're divided)....
And once you've become familiar with bettas and betta keeping, start doing research on breeding them.
You'll probably soon find out that it's not for you.
You need alot of room, money and time to do it properly. Example... when you can tell what sex the fry are, you're going to have to seperate all of the males into their own individual containers. So you're going to need room for a potentially large amount of bettas. The containers probably won't be very large to try to save on space, so you'll have to do water changes in them every day just to keep the water quality in them decent.

bettas are just as easy to keep as any other fish. And they are easy to breed as well if you set them up right. Obviously it helps to do some research on the subject but that is why this thread was started. gibson159 is just trying to get some info.

thanks colin, obviously the other people can't read plain english here lol, i said i am "gaining knowledge" of breeding, i never said i am going to do it right away for gods sake....

thanks for the help for the people which actually did help and not slag me off!

No one is trying to "slag" you off. YOU gave the impression you were going to just jump right into it. I was mistaken so I apologize for assuming that much. But I wasn't giving any sort of attitude in my other post other than you need to do more research.
