i was just doing a water change an was thinking... i always add water dechlorinator before adding it to the tank, but can you add it after?

i use buckets at the moment but using a hosepipe and adding prime as it fills or after would be very handy!

I usually add mine after and I've had no problems.

I add mine during filling the tank, and I fill mine with a hose. I turn the hose on, then walk back to the tank and put the dechlor in.

you can add it after, but then you need to up the dose for the entire volume of the tank.

(that's what mine says, anyway).

I would definitely make sure to turn your filter off whilst doing this.
To prevent any chlorine from reaching the bacteria.

exactly what i do , but as zodyzod says add enough for the volume of the tank , not the water removed

I've done it both ways without trouble (when using hose: filter off, and dose entire tank volume, as earlier posts have stated).

I add my Prime to the bucket before turning the taps on.
I don't do it after as I don't want to risk putting chlorine in the tank and having it kill off some bacteria as it goes through the filter.
If you have had no problems then I wouldn't worry about it.

Wasn`t sure what to expect with the title seeing as people are talking about who`s got the biggest!!

I`ve always used buckets and added the Prime to that, purely because I wasn`t aware that it was ok to use a hose pipe from the cold water tap?? Although the water would obviously warm from the heater in the tank I always thought the water should be the same temp as I had taken out

With 90 to 100 degree heat the past couple months of summer here, when I use the hose pipe to do a water swap, my tank temp has been going up rather than down! I can't wait for cooler weather.

i was in NC for the past two months and it was hot how did you keep your tank cool?

Our house A/C keeps the tank from getting hot. But the water from the city water pipe gets really hot!

If your using buckets try adding a couple of drops to the bucket as it fills using a pipette or something similar, that's what i used to do, now i just chuck some in the tank before i start filling up with a hose
