Currently I have an AC window unit but it will be taken out within the next couple of weeks as it starts to get cooler and I don't need it anymore. I have a lightly planted 20 gallon tank that I'm thinking of moving to put it in front of the window so that it gets better light during the day for my plants.

Would there be any consequences of putting the tank in front of the window? I have curtains in it, so I could close them if need be. I'd just like to rearrange things a little bit and my amazon swords did really well when they were in my 10 gallon in front of the window but they are doing poorly since I moved them to the 20 gallon.

A tricky one. If you find the window provides more light than the tank's natural CO2 provides you may run in too algae issues.
Try it and see how you get on - but you may have to use those curtains.....

Thanks for the response! The window is west facing, and there is an awning above it so it does get direct sunlight but only in the late afternoon when the sun is low enough to stream through the window. Otherwise it's indirect sunlight. I will give it a try and see how it goes. :)
