Hey guys

I've honestly yet to find any large African cichlid species that I like, but I am fond of the julies for some reason. Particularly masked julies. I'd absolutely love to have a community of these one day.

Though my 75 gallon is stocked at the moment (And I'm not planning on putting african cichlids in it for obvious reasons) I don't doubt that in a few years I'll be bumping the stock over to a larger tank. And with that, I'm already thinking of what to do next because I've got nothing better to do

I'm assuming that with a 75 gallon tank, there could be a lot of freaking julies. I'm more interested in uniformity than I am in quantity of species. However, I think it would be a little more interesting to have something different with them as well.

Maybe just one or two other species of cichlids? What kinds would you recommend?

Do these guys do well in groups of their own kind, even? Would I need a specific m/f ratio?

Are there any catfish that can work in this tank? I love catfish.

Could you post a stock list you have in mind, complete with numbers? (just cause I have no freaking clue what I'd be getting myself into)

Thanks much

6 julies, 6-8 cyprichromis, 6 shell dwellers, a group of syno cats (there are several to choose from), maybe 6 or so tang pearl killies.

would have never thought shell dwellers would fit in that community...

What kinds of synos would work? Upside downs, probably, so they don't snack on the little shell dwellers? Would petricola get too large?

Petricola would be my choice. Those little shell dwellers would probably be the most aggressive cichlid in that group.
