1) Feeding frozen food. Do you chuck it in frozen, or do you de-frost it first ? I read somewere before that frozen food for malawi's can be thrown in frozen so it stays fresh and full of vitamins. But i read somewere else (it might have been here, i cant remember) to make sure food is de-frosted before throwing it in. Because of that, i always seem to half de-frost food, then chuck it in. So just wondered what you guys do ???

2) How long do you keep dry food such as flakes and pellets for before replacing them ? As they do seem to last ages, longer than their 'goodness' does.

3) Will Malawi's breed in an over-stocked tank ? Wont they get disturbed all the time ?

4) For those of you who have external filters, how often do you clean the algae out of the tubes ? My tubes are clear and i can see algae growing inside. It dont look enougth to block it, but i did read that its recomended to clean them every so often, dont know if thats done just so they look clean though ? Can algae built up enougth to block them ?

Thanks

1. i always put it in to warm water, leave it ini for 5 mins, then feed it to the fish

2. I like to replace after a few months regardless.

3. cant answer that one.

4. as long as its only the tubes, i guess you can clean them frequently, depends on build really.

I defrost frozen food in warm water to which I add vit and mineral supplements.

I only buy small packs and they get used up before they go off, I used to buy larger packs but they always seemed to end up oily, algae wafers though seem to last for ever!

Dont know about this one, mine breed but I dont really have a mbuna tank

Maybe once a year to make me feel better

1) like the others defrost in warm water

2) i think it depends on the brand i do what matt northants does with the smaller food containers

3) as long as there are lots of caves, rock, ect they should its hard to get them not to breed

4) i would clean them when you start to see water output slowing down

Also, what water conditioner does everyone use ??????

I use API water conditioner m8, also add some water safe as well when i do a waterchange.

I thought API water conditioner was to make water safe ? What do you use two for ?

i use aqua plus on my tanks
.
Yea, i use Nutrafin Aqua Plus on my tank too, but only because i need something to remove chloramine. However, i recently read something on the net, (i know read to much.. :S ), that it only breaks the chloramine part to neutralize the chlorine part and leaves the ammonia part. Well thats been playing on my mind so thinking of switching to something else...

So im doing abit of research.. which leads to too much reading.. which always.. most of the time.. comes out more bad the better. lol

Ive just thought of something, Is it possible to have chloramine in your water and not have ammonia ?

EDIT: Also, does anyone use Seachem Prime ? Whats it like, anygood ?
