how easily and reguarly do bettas jump.

i have a tank with no real lid. the water line is about 2 inches below the top of the tank and there is a floating plant covering about half of the water surface. will a betta be able to jump through this?

thanks

You should really get a lid or hood to make absolutely sure. You don't want to come in one day to a sad little dried up blob on the floor. They aren't particularly nervous fish, but they DO jump, often for food or like any fish, will jump if alarmed suddenly .

If you get a piece of clear perspex you can just cut it to fit the size and shape of the top of the tank and simply make cut outs on the edges for any equipment or wires to fit neatly. And even add a nice handle on top to make it look good and allow easy removal :good:

Definitely cover the tank. My betta jumped out when I removed his cover. I left the room for a few minutes to get the vacuum and bucket for cleaning and found my fish on the dresser. Poor thing was stuck to a piece of paper. He was ok but i felt so guilty.
