I was thinking of joining the Aquatic gardeners association, only because a want to further my hobby knowledge into the planted tank world.

I remember reading in PFK Peter Bradly asking if any one was interested in going to the annual AGA festival to contact him.

I thought it would be really good to get involved in things like that and go to festivals and talks, but we dont seem to have that kind of thing in the UK, only that new fish keeping weekend down at Hayling island, which is probably so far from planted tank as you could get.

Any one part of such a club/association or the AGA?

Not me, never even heard of clubs specifically for planted tanks either :/

Sam

In the U.S. there are a number of plant clubs/orgs that one can join.

That said, I am not in any of them since, to quote Groucho: I would never join any club that would have me as a member.

Been looking for one as well moody! The only thing i can think of is starting one up. It would be great but i`m unsure how you`d go about it and never mind that, what you would do...lol

Yeah it would be good to start but hard work, i you would have to start a web based group with forum, get sponsors from the like of Richard at AE then build it up from there.

It would be slow to start but it could build up to what might be seen in the US.

Its probably to much for one person.

I think AE would be a good flag ship and Richard will have all the contacts.

We really need something like this in the UK.

We could do a UK monthly or bi-monthly journal ect and aim for style but with all budgets in mind.

It would need all sorts of input from lots of people.

Who's gana start the ball rolling? :D

It would be difficult to start with a forum mate. Like i say i was gonna put a foundation down a few weeks back but with so many forums going on it would be difficult to get going. I think i mailing list would be the way to go at first!

UK based website, with a mailing list sent monthly. If it was e based it would be free and therefore no need for money sponsers!

Umm..if your setting up a forum, link me and i'd be happy to contribute to the posts :D. I can help a little with the website aswell since i know coding. If the coder needs help...

But yeah there are so many forums around people probably wont bother in joining another one.

I would love to start somthing like that, im just abit thick when it comes to starting a web site, i know i could proberbly doit, its just wear do you start, you really need to know your stuff, or have some one/people who do.

:dunno: i think you would need a couple of people around a table putting ideas into the bowl.

Well the first thing to starting a website is you need web hosting and a domain name. Which costs....a domain name like www.moodyswebsite.co.uk would cost around £5 for two years. And web hosting about £6 a month...

i just nearly got algaegrowers.co.uk . Like i said, honest it would be a flop.

I can set the site up no probs, i think the way forward would need to be a UK PLANTED GROUP focus, not on the forum and let it devlop. I`m really interested in doing this and don`t at all mind contributing to the ££ to set it up as long as someone could help with content.

Seriously tho, it would need a lot of time since it would need a good monthly news letter about UK tanks and UK people!

Chris

like i say we have great forums like this to post our questions...it would need to be uk based!

I guess there's the problem "content".

Plenty of DIY website building programs.

Im sure collectively we could find enough material, with people from this forum.
It could include the art of zen rock arranging, native aquatic plants, a yearly aqua contest sponsored by..................., the ideas are there.

I`m not being cocky but the website itself isn`t a problem. I`m ok with that and i`m sure we would get the support of others.

lol, also don`t get me wrong...i haven`t been doing this long hence i ask for content, i am all for getting the ball rolling and making a area for this to happen but the rest is down to you lot.
It would definately be worth it, i have already met a few locals on this forum and seen their tanks in person and spoke to them. And wow, was it interesting, i have learnt so much from talking to people. Thats my reason for pushing this!

I would definetely join such a group. I am a newbie when it comes to densely planted tanks, but I am learning all the time. To the point that I find I am beginning to be able to answer some of the questions. I would love to help out in my limited way and learn more from others.
Ian

Then how would we get it all started, as said above is it in danger of becoming another forum as we have a good one here, and more to the point like said above what would the content be.

Would it be worth considering a style similar to wikipedia. In that people can submit enteries to be published on the site and listed as in a similar manner to an encyclopedia.
