Or has it confused you at times, with different opions, to be honest i learnt alot from forums, more than books, books do have there uses, but i rather be on a forum.
Joining this forum has definatly improved my knolege on fish keeping in general, i've read some good fish books out there but i prefer the sociable forum learning experience more- books tended to make me more confused about fish keeping while this forum has done the oposite .
I've definately learnt loads here (and the fish mortality rate has much improved )
But now theres just so much info, it's taking me forever to choose which fish to add to the bottom area of the tank.
Think I'll be heading to the lfs with a pen and paper and writing the names of the fish i like the look of, then come back home and start researching ...
I have learned an infinite amount from forums, mainly this one. Most of the books I have read were older and IMO not up to date with the improved methods of fishkeeping, especially fishless cycling (has anyone read a book that even mentions fishless cycling). It also takes a whole lot less time to ask here or Google search than it does to try to find and read a book and still maybe not find the answer you need. You could even make a prety good arguement that the internet and forums are the greatest thing to happen in fish keeping in quite a while, maybe ever.
The only bad thing forum life has done for me is sometimes make me extremely fustrated, but thankfully thats quite rare, then again reading fish books can also make me fustrated- i prefer the internet though for research as it has alot of up to date info, while most fish books available are 20yrs+ old.
I have learned TONS since I joined here. As others have said, I know my fish are happier and have better lives now because of the knowledge I've gained here. This place has the most accurate/reliable fish information than any other source I've ever seen, be it book or website.
To add to that, I've saved alot of work myself going here. I wouldn't know about a python if I hadn't signed up here, then when I did my 55G, I'd still be using the bucket methiod
I've learned pretty much everything I know about fish from this forum. My mom & dad taught me a little bit (basics like using declor, etc.) but most everything else I've learned on forums, and this one has been the most helpful by far.
