In a previous post I asked for ID for two fish.. I figured they were the same species but that one was male and the other is female. Most said that one was a Johnnie and the other was possibly an Auratus.

After some research, I think its possible that the blue/black fish that was thought to be a Johnnie is actually a Maingano... and the white and black is a melanochromis parallelus (which I believe is not the same thing as an Auratus).

So, my question is, are Mainganos less aggressive than Johnnies? And are Parallelus less aggressive than Auratus? I am trying to keep a RELATIVELY peaceful tank (I realize mbuna are not peaceful, but I'm looking for the lesser agressive fish).

Thank you for any input. I was set to return both of them to the LFS, but they may get to stay.

Any info on the temperment of the fish I mentioned would be helpful...just trying to decide if I should keep them or return them to the LFS before they get big enough to hurt the other fish in the tank. Thanks

lol, just replyed on the other topic. I see youve considered the female is a parallelus. I must admit ive had no experience with melanochromis parallelus or melanochromis maingano as haven't ordered them in because of what i have read about their aggression and the fact that they are so similar to johanni yet johanni not being as aggressive
