Hi all, im sure this is asked all the time, but here goes....

im currently unemployed after breaking my thumb playing rugby, I have just had the cast off and pins removed and desperately need a new job now, there are plenty of jobs out there I hear you all cry........

well................. after spending so much time in here whilst my thumb heals, I feel I have picked up some good knowledge, and an absolute fascination with all things fishy!! (much to my gf's and parents annoyance)

so if anyone knows of any jobs going in the south west, preferably near devon even better, torquay, then please let me know asap

many thanks

Stuart

sorry this isn't an answer to your question..
but next year when i'm old enough,
i've decided to get a job in petcetera preferably
just because then i can go through all the fish, and fix everythign up
make sure everything is perfect! and not having 50 guppies in a tiny tank, and etc.
also the bettas in the tiny jars..horrible people.

So, you didn't directly answer this question, but are you looking at working at a store that sells aquarium fish, or something else, like helping at a hatchery, or fish importer or something?

Good luck, seeing as how young you are, I doubt they will take you seriously... The floor manager, or other fish guy will most likely disregard any shred of advice you hand em'... No offense, but this is kind of like what happens to me at my store a little, especially when I first started working...

hmm well that sucks. but at least i can rearrange the fish around... they have some tanks that are empty, some way overstocked, so maybe i could even them out and everything, and SEPERATE the guppies... also they have bettas with random fish too, it's rather stupid.

there is always aquaculture... fish farm hand or something.... how bout just working at an aquarium..... the pay might not be all that good but atleast ur doing sumfing u love.

having been recently unemployed ( technically i still am up to Tuesday) I know just what you are feeling.
unfortunately for me there is nothing in my area on the fish side of employment.

I can say that I kept an eye out on the following sites
http://www.ornamentalfish.org/ (click situations vacant)
http://www.tropicalfishfinder.co.uk/jobs.asp (you can also place a wanted add too)

what I also did was contact the big 3 (Tetra, NTlabs & Waterlife products) via email with my CV
in the hopes that should something arise they would think of me, it hasn't worked yet but you never know.
check your local yellow pages and contact any fish related company in your area for any situations vacant
you never know there maybe a reps job out there with your name on it.

oh and I can say don't take the first job offered unless it is something you really want to do
that is a mistake I made and found myself unemployed again 3 months later.

I wish you the best of luck finding a good job.

i dont know much about your area but you could try LFSs, established and tourist aquariums, or fish farms

Im not too bothered whether its a lfs or hatchery/farm, as long as its a job, paying atleaset minimum wage, full time then im happy, I just wanna keep my knowledge growing and possibly ake a difference.

cheers all

stu

Have you got a sealife centre near you, that would be a really cool place to work. Ask around your lfs.
