Hi all,

As the title says, I've got a job interview in my local fish store located in Dillywoods garden centre in Kent. I'm actually really nervous, I only asked on the off chance and didnt think they'd be hiring, but they are :) and they called me.

The store itself is really nice, everytime i've been there the stock looks healthy, tanks clean etc so there are no issues for me there. The thing that scares me most and it sounds ridiculous, but its catching the fish and bagging them lol. I can imagine making a right #118#### of myself whilst the customer stands there watching.. ha!

I'm just a little scared, because its quite easy to give advice when you're typing on a forum, but totally different in person.

Any one work in an aquatics shop? Any advice, or am I worrying too much like always lol

i don't work in a store although i would love too, but i've had people collect fish from my house and bagging them was bad enough

I just hope you don't get those 'awquard' people that want one fish imparticular like i always do :look:

haha, yes i'll anticipate those people and try to avoid lol, i guess it always seems worse when you're trying to catch fish in your own tank, i.e....250L of space to escape to!

i had moved them to a 60l to make it easier  but it wasn't

make sure you have 2 nets, never fails :good:

You probably already know this, but I find it easier to quickly dip the net in and try to get the fish in one rather than chase it around the tank. Once you start chasing, fish seem to start winning!

trust me when your catching fish all day every day you soon figure out the easiest way to catch each particular species, but as said using the element of suprise helps

Surprise never works for me. But patience does, and a second net or, in my case, a bamboo stick, helps convince them to go in the net. Just stay calm!

ty all for such encouraging comments :) I've got to get the job before I start worrying about how I'm gonna do it lol...I'll let you all know heehee.

I'm sure you'll get it. Make sure you remember to tell us though! :p

What a coincidence I went to dillywoods for the first time on tuesday and was very impressed, seems like a great place to work and the staff seemed very knowledgeable :). The most frustrating thing about working in a FS isn't catching the fish (although I don't fancy catching some of their larger fish  ), its trying to explain to people how to look after their fish when they clearly don't give a #41####. I don't offer to catch specific fish, like tetras etc because they all look the same.
