roma v jewel i meant

is it possible to add bio media etc ,  ie can u get in the cartridges.

getting a small tank 70 or 90l     -    roma 90 with u2 or jewel  rekord 70 with jewel internal

which filter is best of the two

also which one had best lights

I have a Juwel Rekord 800 and I have to say it's the best internal filter I've ever come across. It never gave me an ounce of trouble. Unfortunately it has to run on sponges alone but that seems to be of no consequence to this filter. I can highly recommend the Juwel Rekord range and everything is tucked away neatly in that sleek black corner box that you barely notice ... bit of clever planting and it disappears even more :)

forgot to say ... lights are good in the rekord too. They've gone onto T5's now though. Mine has the old T8's

hmm shop i seen rekord they are t8 will check web ta
arr maybe that the 700 iam looking at

I could be wrong but I thought they'd put all their tanks onto T5's now but I could be wrong. It doesn't matter, there's nothing wrong with the old T8 tubes. All my tanks have run on them and you can still buy them easily ... I don't buy Juwel's make though - too expensive - I just buy the generic alternative

Juwel build well made tanks. filters are nicely packed in the back (if you use a black background its unnoticeable). Lights are mostly t5s now, they are pricey

could be? if it says so on their website then probably. Does it matter?

I don't think there's much difference between T5's and T8's ... both are just a tube and because they are inside the lid your not looking at them. I think it's things like LED's where you start getting major differences. All my tanks have had T8's and I've no trouble growing lush plants and I've had no issue replacing the tubes when they've blown. In my area T8's are cheaper aswell and easier to get. There arn't many T5's around in these parts - all the one's that I've seen have been Juwel's own brand and they are very pricey

To be honest I wouldn't dwell on it too much but then that's just me

  Just my opinion

hahaha ... I have a simplistic view to this fish keeping lark. You can throw loads of money at it but it won't keep the fish any healthier or happier

Honesty hun, the decision is yours but there is nothing wrong with the lights that the Rekord comes with - this what mine looked like (only photo I've got on photobucket!)

One thing I will say is ... if you get the Rekord get some acrylic paint for the back. The only fault I found with it is that the condensation gets between the plastic background and the glass and you can see in the photo what it looks like. It annoyed the you-know-what out of me

one word .... Fantastic.

Have you seen them? Everything is tucked away so neatly and I love the way they've designed it.

That black thing in the rear right corner is all you see

Inside there there's a space for the heater and another space for the sponges

Sponges go into a plastic 'tube' and then just slot in

I've not a photo of the actual filter head but you can see it in the 2nd photo. The outlet nozzle pulls off and then you pull the filter head upwards to get to the impeller for cleaning.
The design in genius and is so simplified. And what's even better is - in all the time this tank ran I never had any filter problems - no ammonia or nitrite problems - this little tank just ticked over and never gave me any problems.

The only problem was the condensation from the lid getting between the background and the glass but that's easily sorted with some acrylic paint. The only other thing I've not mentioned - which I remembered after my last post and we were talking about lights - is that when one bulb blows the other one stops working. The lighting unit is on a loop so if one bulb is out the other one 'switches off'. This seems to just be a safety thing. Once you replace the blown tube the other starts up again no problem.

Hopefully I've given you some useful info there
