Jewel Cichlids

I am think of switching up one of my tanks for some Jewel Cichlids. It is a 48 gallon bow front tank. I really don't know much about Cichlids. Should Jewels stay only with each other or with other Cichlids. I like tanks with a few species in them. Any recommendations on stocking for a 48 gallon tank?

u can put jewels in with anything as long as they dont fit in their mouth lol i have a breeding pair wich are now sharing a 3ft tank with 2 silver sharks 5 rosy barbs 2 clown loaches 1 rainbow shark and a baby blue acra they all have their own hiding place and all get along ok unless my jewels have eggs wich they lay them in half of the ship wreck

If you do get Jewels, don't follow skittz stocking. Not smart. Jewels are pretty agressive. I'd suggest getting like 2 pairs, and maybe some Yellow Labs to go with them( both african, similar agression). The colors would look great together aswell. Males are mroe colorful, and have elongated fins. Females will be more of a solid red color, and have as many "sparkles" on them. Their fins are also more rounded, and the females are generally smaller.

Thanks for the info. I have a brother in law that has several yellow labs. Sounds like a good combo. Time to get to work on the tank.

MAKE SURE, the tank is cycled. Or you will lose the fish.

i neva said to do what ive done im just saying that mine are in with the other breeds of fish and they are fine my situation is only temp till i sort out my other tanks yes jewels are agressive but with my pair they are only like that when they have eggs or fry but everyones fish are different the only fish that are smaller than them in the tank are the barbs and they are the only ones they chase cuz they wanna eat them lol wich i dont mind cuz they were brought as feeders

so will a juwel be ok in with my mbuna eg yellow labs, rustys, yellow tailed acei's, greshakei, etc there between 2/5 inches the juwel which is currently on its own is about 5 inches
