I understand these are African.. hts why im posting here if not please move to the new worlds section.

basically could i keep one or a pair in a 15g with no other fish ?

if you are refering to Hemichromis bimaculatus
I think keeping a pir in a 15g would be pushing it.
they are very very aggressive. my pair killed quite a few fish
when in my 17.5g.
I don't think keeping one in a tank on it's own is a good idea as they do like to be in pairs.

My pair are quit happy in my 400ltr now and often spawn, even though the adonis and
flyer plecos eat the eggs.

Too small IMO - a 20 Gal would be the bare minimum and i personally wouldn't even consider them unless it was in at least a 30 gal. Even a mated pair with no other fish wouldn't have enough room in a 15 gal.

Ok thanks for clearing that off ;) im weghig up options and so far its...

1/2 female shortbody convict
1 red eye red tail puffer
1 Figure eight puffer and gobies
1/2 Jewel cichlids

Yep, I would say a 30 gallon minimum, even established pairs can turn on eachother and become aggresive.

Just a quickie lmao, you may realise i really love these fish... but i cant get a bigger tank.. could i have 2 Females? and combos fo a 15g and you sure i can only have one jewel, but it wouldnt be happy (i dont want that)

DA

2 females would be worse than a pair i'm afraid - almost certainly result in territorial squabbles.
