Well - My dad is strippping his malawi tank + 2 jewels, he wants to keep the 2 jewels for his 150ltr+ tank when its re-done, so as my tank has now finished cycling :hyper: :hyper: :hyper:

He wants me to put the two medium sized jewels in mine for about a week. Im guessing this would be ok as long as its no more thank a week? (I have a 95ltr tank)

It will be ok for short term but the question is...what are you putting them in with?

I tried looking after one for my friend temporary and it beat the hell out of my Firemouths.

Yeh man,for a week it will be fine aslong as its cycled etc.

Hi m8, cycled?, was only yesterday you said it was nearly processing ammonia in 12hrs..... how come it seems to have literally cycled over night?

Its been processing the last few days in 12 hours I must of got confused with you, sorry mark.

But to be fair - If I add the, and theres ANY ammonia (I will test around every 5 hours throughout the week) I will do a big water change, and im going to do 25% w/c everyday anyway just to make sure its all good. And my dad just told me his tank will be re-scaped by sunday so its only a full day thing :good:

Not trying to get at you m8, but once its processing ammonia in 12hrs the nitrites usually takes a fair while to do the same, so if the ammonia has only just started to process in 12 hours, then surely you would have an off the scale nitrite reading which is even more harmfull to the fish, ontop of the stressful move to another tank already, as i said m8 nothink personal just the fishes interest at heart ;)

Mark, dont worry I dont find anything you say personal or annoying or w.e its advise i need to listen to :good:

My nitrite readings are 0 aswell. I have just added the 4ml of ammonia which I have been adding all the way through the cycle, I will check the readings at 8pm,12pm and then at 4am so it will be 12 hours since adding ammonia, if its 0 then ill be happy, But Im not going to add them until I definatly know its cycled.

Thanks for the advice Mark :good:

- I will not add them until I know 100% that my tank is cycled :)

Mark, Ive been talking him thru the cycle, its been processing ammonia and nitrIte in 12hrs for a few days, within 24 for nearly a week I think it is now.

Fisher, do a large w/c prior to adding the jewels, to get the nitrAtes down as they will be very high now, 90% change, add dechlor obviously and then re-fill (with warm water not completely cold) then you should be ok to add them for a few days :good:

Ahh!!! fair enough then :), just didnt want him to kill any fish accidently lol and basically mess his cycle up by removing the nitites through water changes prolonging his cycle even more :), but if all is well then fair enough :good:

No worries, Id be the first to shout at him, if I thought he was gonna do them any harm :)
