I have kept Discus for about 3 years, the tank is 5 foot long by 2 foot wide and 3 feet high. It's a community tank with 6 large Discus 6" across & various other fish.

I went to our local fish shop and bought some Tiger barbs, in the same tank as the Barbs were 4 light brown fish. They looked different and I asked what they were, The shop owner told me a name (which I can't remember) and said they were tropical fish ideal for a community tank so I bought them as well.

Got them home put them in the tank and when I turned the light on in the morning I was shocked to find the fish had turned in to the most beautiful pink/orange fish with wonderful neon type spots. We did a quick search on Google and found out that they are Jewel Cichlids!!

I have read they can be aggressive but since they were put in the tank a week ago they seem to be peaceful and there colour seems to bet brighter by the day.

So my question is are they OK in the tank PH is 5 to 6 and temp is 30c

Also don’t trust the shop owner to get what he is selling right

They are always like that i the beggining. They are DEVILS. My male beat the crap outta my female and she is floating in the water. So i took her out and put her with my angels( who i have had for a month). And she is missing all her fins and she is alrready trying to pick fights with the angels( they would win if came death to death). SO i wouldnt put them in and they need a higher ph anyway.
