Tank size: 36 Bowfront
pH: about 6.5
ammonia: test kit doesn't have this compound
nitrite: 0
nitrate: about 40ppm
kH: don't know what this is
gH: don't know what this is
tank temp: 80F
hardness: 120ppm
alkalinity:between 0 and 40ppm

Fish Symptoms (include full description including lesion, color, location, fish behavior): For past 2-3 days jewel cichlid has been barely moving. It remains in a nearly vertical position. the tail never moves; in fact, the tail fins appear compressed like they were "glued together." It also appears to be "gasping." The other fish in the tank are not exhibiting these symptoms. I have had them all approximately 4 months.

Volume and Frequency of water changes: I have been changing my water usually every week on Saturdays. I change a minimum of 25%, but the last water change (yesterday) was closer to 50% because of this fish's lack of activity.

Chemical Additives or Media in your tank: I was adding aquarium salt, EasyBalance (with Nitraban!) from Tetra, & Tap Water conditioner. I have since stopped adding salt because my last water hardness test showed about 180ppm.

Tank inhabitants: 1. Jewel cichlid; 2. Electric yellow cichlid; 3. Red Empress cichlid; 4. Clown Pleco; 5. Bristlenose Pleco; 6. a camouflage patterned cichlid that was in an assorted cichlid tank. All of them are approximately 2 inches long, except the Bristlenose. He's about 3 inches.

Recent additions to your tank (living or decoration): none

Exposure to chemicals: None that I'm aware of.

Digital photo (include if possible): I'll have to submit this at a later time. he's under a rock in the back of the tank.

could it be that he is being beat on by other fish? you may not see it, but it sounds like thats whats happening. ive had a few peacocks act like that when i tried to introduce only one at a time. is it possible to move him to another tank?
