Hi all
I have been asking questions regarding a cory that had fungus on the cory area and got lots of useful advice but am left with this problem and it might be more general, and I haven't found anything on this. The fish is in the hospital tank and the fungus seems to have cleared up ok except for an area on his side which is still there and now the fungus has gone I can see that it has a jelly-like texture and its immovable, I managed to touch it when I moved him to the hospital tank.
He has had Myxazin and Pimafix and then later anti fungus interpet 8. I don't know what this is and whether he can join his mates in the tank, any ideas?

I wouldn't put him in the main tank yet until you know exactly what it is. I would also be careful with the medications as wrong diagnosis and all the different meds can be just as fatal as some of the diseases. Can you not put a picture up so thet everyone can see the problem and hopefully give you the correct advice and then you can treat accordingly.

Corys are more prone to the bacterial side.
Is the jelly coming from the fish body through a cut or wound, or is it just on top.
Is it possible to get a pic of the fish up on the board.
Also what colour is the jelly.

Thanks Wilder and Paul-discus
I haven't managed to get any close up pics of any fish yet and this is hard to spot so i don't hold much hope of getting anything worth posting. Looking straight at the affected side of the cory you can't see anything but looking from above of face forward you can see this kind of jelly like bulge on one side. It is pretty much clear or slightly yellow and the markings (it's a Sterbia) can just about be see through it. To the touch it is definitely on top of the cory rather than a bulge under the skin, but it's not moveable at all and it is the consistency of hard jelly (like the cubes you make jelly with not the less resistant stuff you eat). It could be the site of an injury but I don't know of one happening to him and it is almost 1cm long and kind of lozenge shape possibly with another tiny lump to the side. The fungus he had seemed to start there and cover a lot of him and this particular cory has always seemed to have less distinct markings/colours that the others a bit like a film over him, I didn't notice this until I put him with the others and could see from the comparison that his markings were not as distinct.
His usual tank is 56 L, is understocked, and the current/typical readings are
Ph 6.8
Nitrate 15-25
Ammonia 0
temp 27
It has a sand substrate and lots of plants.
In the hospital tank there is gravel, internal filter, temp 25 I put a plant in for cover but have taken that out as the lack of light was killing it so will try and find a cave for him to hide in.

Weird, he has a film over him can you see any parasites in the jelly, and does he flick and rub.
What colour is the film on him is it a greyish white.
Parasites to bacterial, then it could be both.

Hi
no parasites to be seen in the jelly and the film is barely there it is more like his colours are less pronounced than the others, both that and the fungus seem to be completely gone. He isn't flicking at all and his behaviour is completely normal; he mixed with the other cories when he was with them and they all seem to be doing fine.
Bit of a mystery!

Thanks Wilder
yes I have some melafix. Should I try a mild version of the salt bath and add the melafix to the hospital tank?
DD

Yes add the melafix to the tank, and yes do milder salt baths hope it going to get rid of the jelly thing on him.
Good luck.

Decided to give up on my poor little cory today
After mild salt baths and more melafix he was just getting worse. There was a new area of the jelly like stuff to the side of the main lump and another starting on his other side. The poor little fish was also just lying still in the same place and had stopped showing any interest in food.
I used the cold water method.
Better get everything in the hospital tank cleaned properly as I still don't know what it was.
All the other cories still doing fine but will continue to keep an eye on them because, as is the way with cories, they used to all hang out together and practically sit on top of each other so if it is infectious they will surely pick it up.

Sorry R.I.P.
