Hi,

I know this kinda classifies as Hardware, so it shud be in the hardware forum, but as the hardware is related to planted tanks and plants i thought it would make more sense to post it here

I went to my LFS today and saw a product similar to the Hagen Bubble Diffuser for CO2. It is manufactured by JBL aquarium brand and instead of a rectangular diffuser like that of the hagen one, it is a cylinder, with the bubble path circling up the the tube and to the top.

On the box it says that the diffusion pathway is 100cm.

this got me wondering wot the diffusion path length of the hagen diffuser is.

I am looking to buy either the JBL or the Hagen as soon as possible...once i figure out the diffusion length of the Hagen ladder. but i have not yet successfully found that out.

can anyone tell me how long the diffusion path for the hagen CO2 bubble diffuser is?

and also, on the JBL, there is a collecting cap at the top of the diffuser, so that any Extra gas that is not yet diffused After travelling up the ladder can collect there and get slowly dissolved in water...so it pretty much has a CO2 diffusion bell on the top. Does Hagen Diffuser have that?

Thanks

i know the one your talking about (JBL). i use the hagen one but from memory the JBL diffuser looks better, you can also buy an extension for the JBL one to make it even longer and the benefits of the bell on top are obvious. the hagen one does not have the bell on top.

thx jimboo.

Is it possible for u or anyone to measure the diffusion path for me?? i know its a fair bit to ask for, having to disconnect the unit and using a ruler and all, but i really wanna buy one that has the Longer diffusion path. I would not consider buying the extension unit cos i am REALLY low on money....haha.

please measure for me someone...jus roughly.

Thanks

I spent £30 on an aquamedic diffuser that is designed to go in line with tho output from a filter. This is also a cylinder and the water flows down through the diffuser while the CO2 tried to bubble upwards.

OK ist not the JBL one but the longer the co2 is in contact with the water the better...

-____-"" i knew that smithrc....haha...thats y i am looking to find out the diffusion path of the hagen...but thanks anyway!! :p

I have one of them DIY gravel vacuum things goin on with my DIY co2 now but i am not satisfied....for some weird reason..
but ok, another lil question then,

Which method of diffusion would u recomend? the gravel vac method? or the diffusion ladder method?

thanks

ah right - one sec...

sorry - not sure where i've put our hagen one... it must be with the last tank at my parents.

I'm at my mum and dads first thing tomorrow - I'll let you know as soo as i can ;)

right then... there are 24 'rungs' at approx 60mm each... (12 on each side)

Total length = 1440mm = 1.44m

with this we didnt get total absorsion. However - with the Aquamedic one we do as the run is the same (1.45m from memory) but the water is aposing its path so is in contact with more water and for longer.
