Hi to all JBL cO2 fans out there in Aqualand.
My plight is how to get my 500g pressurised bottle refilled locally. Any ideas anyone..
I have heard that local chemists shops may be able to do this, again has anyone any experence of this or has any info on other methods.
Thanks in advance

i dont know if this will help but here in the U.S i hve my co2 filled at a welding suuply shop...i can also drop off my bottle and pick it up later(a few days) and have my specific bottle refilled or else just exchange it.of course i have a standard co2 bottle(5lb)though.

Yes welding suppliers, thats one avenue, any more sources guys & gals...

Most Maidenhead Aquatic stores do them mate. £9.49 my last refill cost.

Phone them first to make sure they've got some in - they swap your empty for a full one, not ideal when you had a lovely new Dennerle cylinder like I had but it does the job!

Cheers George!
Good call but it's not practical, postage costs et al. Aquatics Online offer a similar service but again not cost effective, me being out in the sticks so to speak.

Ah, forgot your location, sorry.

Speak to companies that supply C02 for pubs and clubs - they're unlikely to fill your 500g bottle but may sell you a 7kg bottle for about £40

Places that supply fire extinguishers will also supply co2 refills, and if you have a word with them they may also help you out.

You might wanna check out on that, I beleive that JBL use their own thread size & you can only use compatible JBL refill/exchange centres. I'm not positive but I heard somewhere the JBL regulator doesn't fit onto a standard CO2 bottle. It's probably done like that so they make the money on the refills as well as selling the system, quite common in the business world.

That shouldn't stop you from being able to leave the bottle there whilst they fill it for you though, this would only prevent you from getting a swap at the LFS.

I went to my local gas suplyers and asked if they would fill mine, they said they could't, as they buy the gass ready bottled.
I also asked if i could buy a big bottle they said NO! because it belong to the company that fills the bottles and they hired the bottle the customer, so there cahrging you for the hire of the bottle per day, the gas, and a handling charge.

The local rep advised me to find a small gas suplyer that fill there own bottles and sweet talk.

Mines been running for over 3 months now, the gauge is on 40 so i recon i have about 3/4 months to fine some one to refill it PANIC STATIONS.
I think i might buy a 2kg bottle and use the 500g as a back up.

i dont want to be the bearer of bad news, but you might not have as long as you think. mine didnt half go quick once i got down to around 40 :(.. 10 weeks to 40 1 week to empty.. dont know how other people found it

All excellent replies guys, I am heading to a welders suppliers tomorrow (Sat) who I have on good authority might be able to help.
I'll keep you posted.
Many thanks to those who contributed to this thread.

Started to panic a bit reading this as I have yet to consider where I'm going to get my refill from. My LFS do some form of refill service although I think that they take your bottle away and give you another.

The I remembered that my Father in law is a sales rep for welding gear! Think I'll get him on the case to find a local supplier or better still to get me another larger bottle.

I know that it has been discussed in the past but are the JBL fittings a standard size or would I have trouble getting a larger bottle to fit?
