This is a very good question... I'm running on the 390g 'disposable' cylinders and they last me a few months... however the last 2 bottles have not fulfilled their potential due to leaks...

Our latest bottle was a 600g disposable and it ran out a few days back (might be longer as i only niticed when the hair algae appered)

anyway. I normally pay £15 for a new bottle at the local fish shop. I've just got one from screwfix for about 7.50 (i think) but its only the 390g...

anyway - I was thinking about going for refillable and getting an adapter to make it the same thread size... what is the thread that the JBL kits use?

PS. I've found the 600g ones online - 3 for just under £30

Empty I take it but ready to fill ? Not sure on the size, would have to check out the specs for the JBL regulator

I've just been looking around on the net in a panic :), I'm going to buy a 5kg bottle with a standard thread and get my dad who is an engineer to make me an adaptor.
That way i can get it refilled cheap and easy.

I've read here somewhere that you can modify the JBL regulator to fit a standard bottle just with some emery paper.
Has anyone done?

This is where I am confused now as I can't find any mention of the "custom" size fitting on any site that sells the JBL reg. Surely if the fitting was special then people should advertise this?

mine is not a branded system - I've put it together myself ;)

I think the denerle systems use the same cylinders as mine...

Keep finding the same answers on this that the people in the US have problems finding alternative bottles for JBL's but the people from Aus don't.

Could this be a metric/imperial thing?

i was going to get an exchange at the lfs untill i saw the state of it. I was exchanging a brand new bottle for a chunk of serious rust, just couldnt bring myself to do it :) got a few weeks to figure out what to do as a have 2 500 bottles tp give me abit of refill time

Hunter do you have a local pub that you frequent? I was up late reading about the JBL refill issue and several post made in Australia seemed to point toward standard Co2 bottles being used. I also found an old post on another board from Aqua Essentials stating that BOC bottles could be used. I'm going to see what I can aquire from either my father in law who is a welding sales rep or my step mother who works in a pub :D

Simon i have sent you a pm on this matter.......basically it can be done very easily without the need for adaptors etc.
