I was always under the illusion that the pressurised systems were mega bucks, but I can pick up the JBL Profi Set 2 for £150 so I'm seriously considering it. However I've just a few questions on the matter:

1.Is this kit all I will need, or are there other bits and bobs required

2.It's rated for aquariums up to 200L, mine is 265L will this make a huge difference, looking at the other JBL topic people use these on much smaller tanks

3.I'm only expecting to have 2.2W/Gal Lighting so will CO2 make a major difference or am I just wasting money

That's all Folks

I think for a tank your size (70 US gallon) you would be better off sourceing a standard co2 cylinder and buying a regulator seperatly, even if the Profi 2 were to be ok for your tank (of which i am not sure) because the cylinder that comes with the set is only 500 grams you would be endlessly swapping it out for refills every 6 weeks or so, for a tank your size you really need a bigger cylinder and if you buy the JBL kit i dont think it will fit normal cylinders so if you ever got fed up with the 500 gram size the equipment would not be compatible.

Thanks for your comments Zig, I've been looking into creating my own CO2 system. It doesn't appear to be a great hassle. I intend to use:

1. 2Kg JBL £100 (I know my LFS will fill these up for £13)
2. 2 Gauge Regulator £30
3. Correct me if I'm, but this will all then lead to either a Bubble counter or a needle valve – both around £20 - £30
4. Which will then go to the diffuser.

So would be looking at about £200 (Including a JBL Permanent CO2 Test Set and some tubing - £20) for the set up.

With the view to incorporate a magnetic valve for night switch-off and a
pH-control control device at a later date.

Does that sound about right ?

Yep it sounds about right, although i would still try and find somewhere locally that does co2 refills and they would be able to sell you a decent size cylinder a lot cheaper than in the link, but if your stuck with that your stuck with that i guess, the regulator is fine, although the needle valve will have to go inline if you choose that one, it probably wont fit onto the regulator itself unless you know what fittings to order etc, a bubble counter is optional i just use the hagen ladder as bubble counter and diffuser, you can make a bubble counter with a small plastic bottle and some tubing, you will need a check valve to stop water siphoning back into the needle valve this also goes inline and thats about it, you should easily do it for less than 200 quid if you got the cylinder cheaper.

You could also buy a regulator with a built in needle valve if you dont fancy buying the needle valve seperatly.

Kool thanks zig, just a question of hunting around for parts really. Only just been looking into it today and have just spent about £600 on my first tank so money is a bit tight, the CO2 is going to have to wait.

I haven't even got any fish yet, think they should come first
