is it possible to do by placing each individual strand in the gravel? will it spread? do they root? i want to be able to carpet the hole of my aquarium floor. but as you may have thought i dont want to have to put a load of slate in my tank
Java moss has no roots, but it will attach itself to just about anything it's tied down to. Just get you moss, spread it out in a single layer and take some cotton thread to hold it to a rock or wood or whatever you are trying to attach it to (I find slate works great.)
Just start it off on a peice of slate and place it down in your gravel level with the top of your gravel and it should grow off the slate and onto the gravel.
