Once i heard about java moss i alwaysd wanted to have it and have a nice green carpet as a retreat for my fish. When i finally saw some in the shop i obviously got it, but i have been dissapointed with it. I lodged it between some stones when i first got it and it usually gets covered in algae quicker than it grows. I just sits there doing nothing. Ok i admit that my lighting isn't that great (1wpg) but i do add some liquid fertiliser every now and again but people say this thing grows in anything within reason of course. I can grow Java fern and a certain type of bushy cryptocoryne which looks very nice but i can't get the moss to grow . i also have problems with hygrophila polysperma and hydgrophilia angustifolia, which always look leggy and frequently loses almost all their leaves. i am having trouble getting a background plant to look nice.
Thankyou for any information that you give.

Attatch the java moss to some wood (see the pinned article on this planted forum). Lighting is the problem for the two other plants. It needs to be more WPG. Search the forum for ways in which to upgrade your lighting.

Thanks for that, what makes the plants lose their leaves faster?
I'll try attaching the Java moss to wood.
Will Java moss grow in the lighting i have, it should, right?

Java moss is not the fastest of growers. If you have hair/thread algae in your tank then the moss will attract this first!! So difficult job. One way maybe to float it at the top where it can get more light.

Suggest you get some fast growing plants like Hornwort to help you combat the algae.
