My java moss is being held onto a rock with a bit of netting. I'm wondering how long it will take to attach itself to the rock. Does it make a difference the type of rock? For example, this rock is quite smooth. Will that hamper the moss' ability to attach to the rock? Will it attach more quickly to a piece of driftwood?

Thanks.

It could take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks, depending on how much of it you want to be rooted. It will never root itself entirely to create a lawn but it will attach.. java moss can even attach to glass at times. Driftwood is fine, I usually attach it to a rougher piece of rock

i doesnt matter if the rock is smooth the rhizomes that hold the moss on are so small that they stick to virtually any solid surface, it usually takes 3 weeks to have a proper anchored moss, im currently growing moss on a coconut and on a grid for a carpeting effect.

I've got some on two pieces of bogwood and some slate :)
